Commonwealth 5,000m Champion Caleb Ndiku to Lead Kenyan Battalion Against Briton Star in Doha

Published by The Star on April 3, 2015

Commonwealth Games 5,000m champion Caleb Ndiku will lead strong Kenyan contingent against double Olympics 5,000m and 10,000m champion Mo Farah at the Doha Diamond League meeting slated for May 15.

Ndiku was the Diamond League winner last year in the 3,000m and 5,000m and will race Farah, who is also the world and European double champion (10,000m and 5,000m) in the eight-lap race.

Other top Kenyan expected in the race include world 5,000m bronze medallist Isaiah Koech and Olympic 5,000m bronze medallist Thomas Longosiwa with the latter racing in Doha for a sixth time.

The field also includes Edwin Soi, the 2008 Olympics 5,000m bronze medallist. His personal best of 7:27.55 came on the Doha track as well, when he finished second to Ethiopia’s Yenew Alamirew in 2011. Adding to regional interests will be Bahrain’s Albert Rop, who is the Asian record-holder over the 3,000m indoors and 5,000m outdoors.
